Rome Fiumicino International Airport Records Over 150% Growth in Air Traffic Movements

Rome Fiumicino International Airport has experienced growth of over 150% in its air traffic movement statistics. 

Between January 29-February 5, the airport recorded 375 movements, which is 153.38% up compared to the same period last year. 

For the same period in 2021, only 141 movements were recorded, which was 77.40% less than the same period in 2020. 

And for 2020, the airport recorded 655 movements, which was only down 8.13% compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. 

What has contributed to this increase?

The loosening of international and domestic travel across Europe would have contributed to this slow, but steady rise in movements from the airport.

On top of this, the emergence of ITA Airways solving part of the Alitalia problem would have helped the airport as well, especially with Alitalia being in dire straits previously. 

Whilst the numbers are quite low compared to pre-pandemic levels, this is a step in the right direction for the airport.

All eyes will be on the airport to see how it fares towards the end of the Winter season and when the Summer season opens up for air travel.
