Saurya Airlines CRJ-200 Crashes in Kathmandu

On July 24th, 2024, a Saurya Airlines CRJ-200ER (registration 9N-AME) crashed shortly after takeoff from Kathmandu Airport. The 21-year-old Mitsubishi CRJ-200ER aircraft was being ferried to Pokhara for scheduled maintenance.

The flight took off from runway 02 at 11:11 local time and lost control almost immediately. The aircraft veered off to the right and crashed on the east side of the runway. Rescue operations were promptly initiated, and the fire was brought under control. The last position from the Bombardier CRJ-200ER was received at 05:26:25 UTC.

Nineteen people, all airline employees, were reportedly on board. Tragically, at least 15 people have lost their lives, with reports indicating that 18 people were found dead. One seriously injured person, along with the captain and three others, was rushed to the hospital. Rescue operations are still underway.

Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft veered off to the right and crashed on the east side of the runway. Rescue operations were initiated immediately.
